It’s no secret that plus size fashion and models are underrepresented at New York Fashion Week. This is why we are thankful for designers like Renee Cafaro Atelier.
During NYFW the designer featured a truly size inclusive runway show with clothes that actual plus size women could buy in their size. Renee’s “Transatlantic” collection was inspired by classic stars of the silver screen. “It’s a journey through the glamour of travel from a bygone era to the opulent hallmarks of high society.”
The collection featured 20 looks and a diverse group of plus size models. The models were casted by Life Of A Working Model Inc. Founded by Liris Crosse.
Renee Cafaro Atelier S/S 2025 Runway Show
The show was presented by Oxford Studio and took place at White Space Chelsea. And the room was filled with a medley of plus size influencers, content creators, and journalists. As well as international media.
The show opened with a bang as a model strutted down the runway topless with a multi strapped harness made out of watches. Right behind her was another model dressed in a two piece peplum matching set.
Renee Cafaro Atelier’s collection was a mix of elegance and glamour. In addition, she gave us some casual looks which gave a retro vibe. Some of my favorite looks were a beaded white gown with faux leather halter style straps. Then there was a beautiful full on sequin floor length gown that was stunning.
However, there were a few dressy casual whimisical looks like a denim double breasted coat with usps envelopes as pockets. Also, there was a denim romper with black felt trimming and wood like buttons that spelled out Paris.
Another show stopping moment was model Liris Crosse closing the show in a bold red sequin gown with a train dragging behind her as she glided down the runway.
Designer Renee Cafaro is no stranger to NYFW but this year you showed up and represented for the plus size community by showing that diversity and size inclusivity matters. She has had an extensive career in politics and has been an advocate for unions and fair wages in the garment district.
Cafaro says, “Most don’t realize that I had a whole other life in politics and unions, so creating fair wage jobs in NYC is of paramount importance to me. Many try to paint the Garment District as dying out, but my team of skilled artisans and I are here to show that small business is still bustling in New York. I have been very vocal about saving the neighborhood from an upcoming rezoning, which if done poorly, can put most of us out of business. Creating haute couture while remaining true to my ethical ideals is the key to my atelier”
After a beautiful runway show, the designer came out and took a bow wearing a t-shirt that said “Save the garment district.”
