Olivia Munn got a surprise today styleImage Maker Award. The evening’s festivities celebrated the biggest moments in fashion and entertainment and the people who help make the magic happen, and the actress’ husband John Mulaney stopped by to present her with a special honor.
Munn received the Women of Influence Award in recognition of her advocacy and change for women’s health following her diagnosis of breast cancer in 2023. Help other women find community and increase their chances of early detection.
“We learned a lot from this,” Mulaney shared. “We learned that she needed five surgeries. We learned about the risks of lymphedema. We learned that if we hadn’t caught it when we found it, it could have been much worse. I also learned that it’s not pronounced “breast.” excision,” which is pronounced “mastectomy.” It shouldn’t be a “mastectomy.” I think the irony is that part of the word itself should be removed.
“About a year later, Olivia shared her story. Her cancer journey. It was a cancer that wasn’t detected by the BRCA gene test and wasn’t detected by mammograms. The reason it was detected , because she took a hitherto unknown drug called a mastectomy,” he continued. “She shared her story to help anyone she could. In the week after Olivia shared the story of her breast cancer journey, the number of women receiving breast cancer risk assessments increased 4,000%, according to the National Cancer Institute .

In a post originally announcing her diagnosis, Munn said she had normal mammograms and negative BRCA gene tests two months before her diagnosis. Regardless, her doctor calculated her breast cancer risk assessment score, and the results prompted an MRI, followed by an ultrasound and biopsy.
“We had enough time to seize it, giving me a choice,” Moon wrote. “I wish the same could be done for all the women who may have to face this one day.”
She has since shared that her doctor performed the Tyrer-Cuzick Breast Cancer Risk Assessment, urging other women to know their scores and consult their doctors. Earlier this week, she shared photos exposing her mastectomy scars. They are part of the SKIMS initiative, which donates a portion of proceeds to breast cancer research.

Mulaney was with her throughout the entire process and said of her treatment: “In September 2023, we were in the hospital for Olivia’s third surgery. She lost a lot of blood during the second surgery, so we All a little nervous. She said to me, “I just read this book about Jackie O. Jackie O. never recovered from her husband’s murder. ” I said, “No, I understand, this is a big deal. “She always regretted not getting over it,” she said. “I’m scared but I’m accepting it and I’m not going to let it cloud our lives and I’m going to get over it,” she said. ” […] I think about how lucky our children are to have you as their mother and how lucky I am to have you as my life partner.
The couple first linked up in the summer of 2021 and welcomed a son in November of that year. They quietly tied the knot last summer and added a daughter to their family in September.
