With infidelity rumors and false accusations of their origin story running rampant online, they were essentially forced to clarify the reasons for their breakup. While Monáe and Gaines didn’t specify what exactly led to their split, they eliminated fan speculation by emphasizing in their message that “there was no infidelity, toxic behavior, or drama.” The same goes for ex-lovers Stormzy and Maya Jama. In July, the pair released a statement about their breakup “for the sake of clarity” after an on-and-off relationship since 2014.
