If you’ve been in the market for a new vacuum cleaner or portable vacuum cleaner, you’ve probably seen this best-selling machine pop up in your own recommendations—and for good reason. Also known as the Green Machine Carpet Cleaner, this cleaner is designed to tackle the toughest stains, and with nearly 62,000 five-star reviews on Amazon alone, it remains a best-selling product. Shoppers love this little green machine for its practical, compact design, price point and powerful cleaning capabilities.
I was curious if this vacuum lived up to its name and decided to buy it myself. Read on for my Bissell Little Green Carpet Cleaner review, including how to use the machine and whether it’s worth buying.

As someone who lives in a smaller apartment space and needs to clean it once a week (if not a few times), I appreciate the portability and ease of use of this cleaner. This product is easy to assemble as it comes mostly together, just connect the actual cleaner with accessories like the hose storage bracket. Within minutes, you can have your cleaners getting to work.
How to use Bissell Little Green Carpet Cleaner
According to the brand’s instructions, it is recommended that you vacuum your rug, rug, or desired surface before using the cleaner so that you can remove all loose dirt from the area. After I finished vacuuming the space, I filled the product’s cleaning tank with Bissell Spot and Stain Pre-Treatment Formula (included with purchase) up to the “Formula” line on the tank, then filled the rest with warm tap water . From there, I slide the tank back into the machine and select my preferred cleaning tool. Each Bissell cleaner comes with a variety of different sized tools for different types of cleaning. For example, there’s a heavy-duty pet stain tool for cleaning pet-related messes, while three- and four-inch tools are better for everyday wear and tear.
Personally, the three-inch and four-inch tools I use most often. They’re easy to connect—I just unscrew the flexible hose, plug the product’s power cord into an outlet, snap the tool onto the end of the hose, and toggle the power button to “on.” I hover the tool about an inch above the spot or stain I want to remove and press the cleaner’s spray trigger. From there, the cleaner worked its magic and I used the spray trigger to gently scrub at the stain, moving back and forth until the entire area was well coated.
Does Bissell Green Carpet Cleaner work?
Within minutes I saw results, and I noticed that my interior looked noticeably more vibrant and refreshed – especially my vintage rugs and bathroom rugs, which looked prone to discoloration and wear. Aftercare is also very easy – I just unplug the cleaner, empty and rinse the tank, and let the tank air dry. This cleaner is compact enough to fit in the linen closet in my bathroom, so it’s easy to hide when I’m not using it and transport easily when I’m ready to use it again.

It’s been a long time since I’ve used a Bissell portable vacuum cleaner, so it’s hard to comment on how this model performs after a few months of use. However, I combed through reviews from other shoppers who have used this cleaner for a longer period of time, and while there were relatively few complaints about this model, some expressed disappointment with its durability and construction. One shopper wrote that the scrubber had worn out over time, saying, “The bristles on the attached attachment are worn and the hose is very fragile where it connects to the inside of the water/solution container.” Another reviewer noted that while they “love this deep cleaner,” they found the Bissell difficult to clean, writing: “I think it has a major design flaw, which is that the tool cover doesn’t come off, so you can’t fully or completely clean it.” Clean it.
