The tour of international fashion capitals ended in Paris, and this season confirmed the emergence of certain trends that I had already begun to follow in New York, London and Milan. However, French fashion houses (and the brands featured here, even if they’re not French) like to often push craftsmanship and concept to the extreme, delivering some of the most indulgent, impressive Spring/Summer 2025 looks and being the most extreme.
Take Loewe as an example. We’ve seen grandiose structures on the catwalks, but nothing beats the radical hoop skirt designed by Jonathan Anderson for the Spanish fashion house. Suspended in the air, these dresses defy gravity and offer new silhouettes and aesthetics for next spring. Not only that, but the highly sculptural pieces are crafted from the finest layers, from the most unexpected materials, such as mother-of-pearl—yes, really.
Like Loewe’s ethereal floral dresses, lightness permeated many Paris collections. Pastel colors abound, with pale pinks and baby blues standing out the most. Ruffles, frills, chiffon and lace were everywhere, and Alessandro Michele’s debut at Valentino put an official seal on the return of “frou-frou,” which put the world’s many anti-quiet luxury dressers at ease. Take a breath.
On the other hand, there are also more restrained or serious moments in office-style clothing (Saint Laurent’s collection was an ode to founder Yves and his signature look of suits and thick-rimmed glasses), with a sporty aesthetic dotting the collection (if Miu If Miu leggings don’t make a comeback, I’ll eat my Stella McCartney baseball cap).
Keep scrolling to see the trends I think will be popular at the Spring/Summer 2025 shows at Paris Fashion Week…
walking sculpture
From deconstructed hoop skirts to padded hip skirts, I saw an array of eye-catching dresses with extra volume and structure. Expect to see full skirt styles entering the market in a strong way next spring.
baby pink and blue
Pretty pastels dominated the Spring/Summer 2025 runways in every city, but in Paris I was intrigued to see a repeat of pale pinks and baby blues. You can take your pick or wear both, go head-to-toe in a single color, or try mixing in some unexpected colors for a clash (see Rochas’ bright red and pink combo).
chintz floral
In my many years as an editor, I can confidently say that florals are always present in spring and summer collections. They change every year, and in 2025 the look will be less of a sickly or artsy floral and more of a cheap floral – something you’d find on vintage wallpaper or soft furnishings with loose prints or jacquards The kind you see on.
Graphic T-shirt
Just when you thought graphic tees were buried… they rise again! Next spring, we’ll see a variety of popular styles, from those with cheeky graphics and large prints to subtly printed logo T-shirts. Interestingly, they’re most often worn with sexy skirts or paired with cute dresses—this isn’t the era of jeans and a T-shirt.
labor force
Get dressed and have sharp eyes! From Saint Laurent’s collection of tailored trouser suits paired with ties and glasses, to Stella McCartney’s girls in oversized trench coats holding newspapers, many of the collections had a business feel, perfect for those looking to update their office attire next year.
big cloth
Goddess-like draped gowns, blouses, blouses and pants in sophisticated tones for a soft, romantic and classic feel. Bohemian yet sophisticated. Uplifting but never boring.
Fru Fru
Ruffles on ruffles! bow! Corsage! hat! The frou-frou’s high profile was evident in many of the most beloved runway moments, with Valentino leading the way with Alessandro Michele’s iconic vision translated into the brand’s first runway collection. If you don’t like excess, look away now.
Sporting Goods
2024 may be considered the summer when the fashion world really captivates the sports world (just how stylish are this year’s Olympians?), but it looks like the influence of technical gear is continuing. From sports-related jackets (moto jackets, trench coats, trench coats, etc.) to hoodies, flip flops and leggings… there is a sporty outfit for everyone.
