As a lifelong loafer connoisseur, it’s just not practical to put away my dozen or so pairs during the fall and winter months. This is especially true considering I only had two pairs of boots to choose from. My feet aren’t impervious to cold weather, which means they still need some extra warmth in addition to my usual lettuce-trimmed socks, especially considering I’ve been wearing boycott pants for over 15 years. The obvious solution is padded socks and leg warmers.
Before you roll your eyes, hear me out—you can’t just randomly pick these items. Unless you agree to order socks every other week, you have to be selective. The problem is, it’s hard to do this when there are (I assume) millions of options. The good news is, thanks to my decades of experience, I’ve got it down to a science, and despite my expensive tastes, the best ones are available in a five-pack on Amazon for $2 a pair.
Loritt wool socks 5-pack
Lorrita Socks Too Good to Be True – Can You Sell $2 Socks? actually Is it worth it? Yes. They’re Goldilocks-level thick, soft, durable (I’ve had mine for two years!) and adorable. Free People Snow Bunny Leg Warmers
Another option is leg warmers. I pair them with loafers, but they’re also the only way to transition my newfound ballet flats into winter. Although they’re not as common as socks, the choices are still dizzying. One of my favorite pairs is from Free People; they’re thick but don’t look chunky, and they’re a little fuzzy and have a slight ballerina feel to them without looking costumey. I think the quality of Free People is worth the price but There are many more affordable, stylish and comfortable options. I love Cozyease’s solid cable knit leg warmers, which are $14, half the price.
