Gloria Steinem spent her life working tirelessly to give women a seat at the table. So it’s only fitting that Steinem honor his decades of commitment with a lavish dinner. Hosted by The Shift on October 16 in New York City, the event brought together activists, fashion insiders and celebrities to commemorate Steinem’s contribution to gender equality.
Steinem’s acclaimed career is closely tied to her work telling women’s stories, particularly as the co-founder of a feminist publication women’s magazine 1972. change, A biannual social impact publication. During the event, Steinem showed off cover images shot by renowned photographers Inez and Vinoodh, who served as dinner co-hosts along with social entrepreneur and Shiffon Co. founder Shilpa Yarlagadda.
Many well-known guests were invited that night, including supermodel Irina Shayk, author and host Padma Lakshmi, actress Anna-Sophia Robb Robb, stylist Sarah Slutsky, climate activist Sophia Lia and YouTuber and designer Mai Pham.

The evening’s celebration not only paid tribute to Steinem, the brand’s “first game changer,” but also paid tribute to Vicky Tsai, founder of skincare brand Tatcha, for her commitment to providing educational opportunities for girls and investing in the next generation of female leaders. Thanks to Tsai’s early work with the nonprofit Room to Read, Tatcha has provided more than 10 million days of schooling to girls in low-income communities around the world.
