I’m very picky! I’m a snob! I’m not easy to please! All of these phrases that tend to have negative connotations are what I’m screaming from the rooftops right now because, well, I don’t care. I think so special— the nicest-sounding word — is a good thing. You know what you like and you won’t settle for anything less. The same goes for partners (I have the best!), home (I absolutely love our Upper East Side apartment!), the food we eat, and more. But, this story is about shoes, and if you know me, you probably know that I am obsessed with shoes. I’m all about footwear, and fall is my favorite time because of one particular style: suede boots.
Forget motorcycle boots or combat options. Sure, these are cool, but I realized that I don’t wear these sharper, edgier boots as often as I wear my soft suede boots. The reason is simple – suede boots have a more versatile look, which means they can be paired perfectly with anything and match every vibe you want to achieve. I wear them with everything from baggy jeans to pleated skirts to leather skirts and every time, they just look worked.
But I certainly wouldn’t buy any suede boots either. I’ve probably tested close to 200 options over the years, but I can officially say that I’ve found 7 that passed all tests. Most of the ones below are what I actually own, while others are what I currently have in my cart.
7 Picky Editor-Approved Suede Boots for Fall
Neil J. Rodgers Eva casual boots
Neil J. Rogers
Of course, I’m biased because these shoes are basically named after me – just kidding, but not really. Besides a great name, these slouchy booties from Neil J. Rodgers have everything I love about a boot—a luxurious suede look, a perfect silhouette, an easy-to-walk kitten heel, and roominess of boots. The cherry on top? They are made in Italy, IYKYK. They’re pricey, but it’s an investment piece you’ll wear year after year. Bonus: They were super comfortable right out of the box, and I can attest to that.
J.Crew new Stevie ankle boots
Jay Crew
I don’t own these J.Crew boots yet, but I will soon. They’re perfect in every way, from their delicious walnut brown hue to their slightly higher ankle length than most traditional ankle boots. This means I can also easily tuck in cropped jeans, but the legs are not too wide, so they can also be worn seamlessly under wide-leg jeans. They were also on sale so I obviously had to get them.
Scarlett Chase Portia 75 Stretch Booties
Scarlett Chase
If you want a pair of sexy suede boots that are as comfortable as sneakers, look no further than these boots from Scarlett Chase. The stretchy leather is super comfortable and molds to the shape of your foot (I’m on the wider side!), while the interior has game-changing cushioning that makes you think you’re not wearing heels at all. Suede is also weatherproof, so technically you could get caught in a rainstorm wearing them, but I always recommend still spraying it with suede protector just in case.
Thursday Boots Luna Boots
thursday boot company
A simple, minimalist, well-designed and easy-to-wear suede boot? That’s it for this Thursday. If you know me, you know that I’m also a big fan of Thursday boots; I own the Heartbreak style as well as these chunky combat boots, but the next pair I’m going to make are the Luna boots. The wooden heel adds dimension, while the sand suede look is stunning. Other notable features include a non-slip sole and a comfortable shock-absorbing insole.
