J.Crew has done it again. After a summer collaboration with beloved New York brand Maryam Nassir Zadeh and a relaunch of its treasured catalog, the brand has now teamed up with Christopher John Rogers for a delightful fall collection. Opening the lookbook and looking at the pieces feels like stepping into a world we’ve always wanted to be a part of. Sitting under the fluorescent lights of the office, we immediately wanted to wander the streets of New York with the models in a sea of bright colors and prints. A collaboration with MNZ sees sheer skirts, lace scrunchies and sequined crop tops, while a collaboration with CJR brings bolder fall looks, including feathered knits, metallic jackets, vinyl coats and iridescent striped busts skirt. The capsule consists of over 30 pieces (including a collection of adorable crew-cut pieces.)
Since its launch in 2016, Christopher John Rogers looks have always been composed of juxtaposed prints, dramatic volumes and strong, saturated colors. Even those in the fashion industry who are reluctant to wear colorful clothes will agree that if there is a designer who makes you want to wear bright and bold colors, it’s Rogers. His craftsmanship has been recognized when he won the 2020 CFDA Emerging Designer Award and the 2021 American Womenswear Designer of the Year Award.

While he releases refreshing and imaginative collections each season, Rogers always returns to a few signature styles, which appear in this collection and blend with J.Crew’s time-tested silhouettes. While it may be bold, that doesn’t negate the fact that it’s extremely wearable. J.Crew’s beloved feather cashmere features CJR’s go-to colorful stripes. Suits transform from work wear to party wear with sequin lining. The classic barn jacket is reimagined in gorgeous gold lamé that’s almost worthy of its display case. What more do you want? Of course, being a collaboration, these pieces are more affordable than the runway collection, with most items priced under $300.

While the lookbook was enough to make us click “buy” on every piece, we knew we had to get the collection out for ourselves and try it out, and do it quickly because we knew the best pieces would be out of stock if we didn’t act fast. The product will disappear. Here are our honest reviews of the items we picked, including what we liked, what we’re passing on, and more.

“Barn coats are probably the biggest outerwear trend of the season, and I don’t foresee that ending until 2025 rolls around, which means this metallic version with brown corduroy accents shows up at the perfect time. When I fell in love with it the first time I saw it. It’s much more casual, but it pairs just as well with pants, which would be fun. Eliza Grace Huber, Senior Fashion Editor

“When I first attended a Christopher John Rogers show, I just remember feeling so grateful to be able to see such beautiful work up close. As cheesy as it sounds, CJR is just one of those designers that excites me 1. Cashmere Sweater – I’m in for it, but on a cold and windy day, a colorful sweater is just the thing. “I’ve always admired Christopher John Rogers’ ability to make bright colors and bold patterns wearable and versatile. In most situations, I would struggle to wear both at the same time clothes, but I’ve always found his designs to be an interesting challenge in terms of style, and this collaboration is no different. I love that this collection includes classic, timeless, and understated separates. There are pieces, like this satin vest and pant set, as well as more traditional statement pieces, like this yellow jacket, that can be mixed and matched to create outfits that are both fun and sophisticated, which I love. You can adjust the vest to be boxier or more fitted, with plenty of pockets at the bottom for added practicality, allowing the jacket to be your outfit without worrying about what’s inside.
