Queen Camilla and King Charles have made history on their royal tour of Australia and Samoa. Not only did the Queen bring some heavyweight jewelry for the trip, but she broke royal protocol and proved she’s no ordinary queen, she’s a cool one. Camilla took a selfie with a royal well-wisher at yesterday’s engagement ceremony at St Thomas’ Anglican Church in Sydney. It may or may not be an official item in the royal playbook, but she knows royal selfies are. How rare, and how highly the Queen values her.
“Although the royal family does not have a policy regarding selfies, members of the royal family are generally discouraged from taking selfies,” Express notes.

At the event, Charles and Camilla signed the country’s first official Bible and Book of Common Prayer (Princess Diana signed it when she attended the same church in 1983), then went out to shake hands, which is when the selfie happened. Last month, Charles was also photographed taking a selfie while meeting the New Zealand women’s rugby team, so it could just be that the new monarchy is more relaxed when it comes to photo opportunities.

The trip to Australia marks Charles and Camilla’s first royal tour since the king was diagnosed with cancer. Initially, the pair planned to visit Fiji and New Zealand in addition to Australia and Samoa, but the trip was cut short from the original three weeks as Charles continued to undergo cancer treatment.
