SAll frozen waffle brands are being recalled following a potential listeria outbreak. Supermarkets are warning consumers who may have recently purchased frozen waffles.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a voluntary recall of Illinois manufacturer TreeHouse Foods after routine testing revealed possible listeria contamination at one of its facilities. The company supplies frozen waffle products to grocery store giants such as Walmart, Target, Publix, Food Lion, Hannaford and Tops. Treehouse Foods also makes frozen waffles for other brands including Kodiak Cakes, Simple Truth and Foodhold.

This latest recall follows a listeria outbreak linked to poultry and prepared foods in September. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said more than 11 million pounds of meat were recalled and contamination caused 10 deaths in 19 states.
Listeria symptoms are similar to flu symptoms – fever, headache, tiredness and body aches. According to the Mayo Clinic, infections can become dangerous and even fatal for people with compromised immune systems, the elderly, infants, and pregnant women. Depending on the severity of the infection, mild symptoms may go away on their own, while severe infections may require antibiotics.
Consumers should check their refrigerators for any frozen waffle products manufactured by TreeHouse Foods and discard them or return them to the store for a refund. So far, there have been no confirmed reports of illness caused by frozen waffles.
