Originally worn on the runway by Jodie Kidd (more than four years before Gerber was born!), this black silk-chiffon dress features cap sleeves and a high waist. It has a sheer gauze outer layered with a black beaded floral pattern and has fringes hanging from the bodice and sleeves. She paired her award-winning antiques with Givenchy shoes and bags, and channeled her inner Hepburn with chokers and earrings from RW Fine Jewelry and a ring from De Beers.
While Gerber’s dress may be from McQueen’s tenure, she also intended to pay homage to McQueen’s right-hand woman, Sarah Burton, who is set to become Givenchy’s creative director. “I have a long-standing relationship with Sarah Burton. When I heard she was going to be the new creative director of Givenchy, I thought working with her would be a celebration of Lee and Sarah’s time at Givenchy in the late ’90s. A great way to do that,” she said.
this My Fair Lady Dresses have proven to be a recurring source of inspiration for Givenchy. In “In America: A Dictionary of Fashion” at the 2021 Met Gala, then-creative director Matthew M. Williams gave a pure interpretation of Kendall Jenner’s iconic dress.
Kaia Gerber, wearing a vintage Alexander McQueen dress, will undoubtedly be the star of the ball. Cue “I could dance all night”!
