Stanley Fritz is the author and founder of the Don’t Be Trash newsletter, which shares the perspective of Black people leaving behind the patriarchy. He has been promoting progressive policies at the state and federal levels for more than a decade. In acknowledging this dynamic between Democrats and black people, Fritz respects the concerns of black men who are excluded from political participation but worries about pandering versus genuine participation. “Team Harris has not completed the research and deep investment needed to prioritize Black people,” Fritz said. A set of policy proposals like the Harris Plan is an important first step, but looking beyond buzzwords and delving into issues that affect most black people, such as grants instead of loans, the minimum wage and homelessness, is key . Beyond the content of the message, Fritz is also concerned that the rollout is not achieving its intended purpose. The policy platform has been shared on Harris’ social media platforms and website, but Fritz doesn’t believe jaded Black people will check out those spaces. “If Democrats don’t get into areas like streaming, gaming, and anime to express black concerns, but Republicans yesthen we will lose people,” he warned. “Why doesn’t the campaign work more closely with messengers like Plies or the Dad Gang,” he wondered aloud. The Harris campaign’s recent meeting with Charlemagne may signal this shift in strategy.
