The theme of Giorgio Armani’s Spring 2025 collection, which was unveiled at a special fashion show in Manhattan on October 17, was all about travel. The show’s instructions and looks emphasized the adventures of international jet-setting, with the opening look complete with suitcase-toting bellhops and a series of 1930s-style trouser suits and shimmering soft dresses – you’d expect to see Black Wardrobe – White movie stars packed their bags for an overnight sleeper train ride across Europe or their first visit to the Empire State Building. Watching the singer and influencer Dixie D’Amelio dress in the front row, I thought about another trip that Ms. Armani knows how to dress for: a late night out in New York City.

A night in Manhattan (or Brooklyn, or Queens) never goes exactly the way you plan. The best outfits fit where they can go: maybe a coffee shop with a secret door leading to a speakeasy occupied by a live jazz band, maybe an invitation to a loft party complete with sparkling champagne flutes and Encounter. They are versatile yet sophisticated, edgy yet not over the top, and blend into any outfit. D’Amelio’s look, photographed by Cody Lidtke for Marie Claire Magazinethat’s what it does.
The “Be Happy” singer updated her all-black New York City uniform with a bra top and high-waisted joggers. On top of that, she added a shaggy, chunky-shouldered bolero trend; at the bottom, she added a pair of pointed-toe heels.

D’Amelio also introduced a pair of oversized square gold earrings, tapping into the ’80s jewelry trend that’s being revived this fall. With her long bob slicked back and her Armani beauty style including blurred eyeliner and dewy pink lips, she looked like the ingénue in the front row with some surprises planned up her textured sleeves.

When D’Amelio left her hotel suite, hopped in her car and arrived at the Armani Park Avenue Armory show, her night took a turn that could only happen in New York. She joined the likes of Brie Larson and Lily Reinhart along the show’s custom-made runway and sat at a cafe-style table; she’s in the new collection Featuring over 90 men’s and women’s clothing styles, one features a teacup poodle.
When the show ended, she was whisked away to an intimate after-party where Chaka Khan and James Blake shared the stage. It’s the kind of night that only a fashion legend like Mr. Armani could curate, and only in New York City. Fortunately, D’Amelio’s costume was more than up to the challenge.
