Fun fact about me: My hair is stuck in the 70s. No matter how I choose to style it—from air-dried curls to bouncy bangs—its rest is vintage. I’ll never forget what a hairstylist said to me while she was styling my hair into smooth, tumbling waves: Your hair has a mind of its own, it wants a 70s style. But hey, I’m not mad! At least The look is timelessright?
It took me a minute (by the minute, and I mean years of trial and error) to find my hair care groove, but I’ve finally found the exact lineup that helps me maintain my natural volume and unfinished nails , bohemian ‘Be the essence of that era. Of course, I had curtain bangs, a center part, and puffy face-framing layers, all of which did a lot of the heavy lifting. That said, I use products that easily create a bouncy texture and curly halo. (A little curl is sexy in my opinion, though, so I’m giving myself grace there.)
1970s hairstyles have many meanings: Blunt Bobhandpicked afros, mature shags and more. (Our virtual shopping assistant ISA is here for any other advice you need.) Fenty Beauty
The Rich One Moisturizing Repair Shampoo
Say it with me: Softer, thicker hair starts in the shower. I’ve always loved Fenty’s Moisture Rich Shampoo, it lathers like a dream but doesn’t strip my hair of precious oils. It also has notes of grapefruit, amber, vanilla and sandalwood. (The smell is Very This is a big deal for me when it comes to hair care, as you’ll realize from this list.

Divi
Whipped Repair Treatment Mask
I usually use a hair mask instead of conditioner because my hair is thick and perpetually thirsty and I only wash it about twice a week. I love the whipped texture of this; it deeply moisturizes my hair while leaving my roots feeling light. Not to mention the scent of mint and tea tree makes it feel like an invigorating spa experience.

Daai
Mirage spray leave-in conditioner
After a shower, when my hair is soaked, I use this leave-in product to give my hair a nice, healthy mist. It’s lightweight enough to keep my strands from getting limp, yet it nourishes and tames frizz like no other product. Still smelled it amazing, Because it contains notes of citrus, orange blossom and vanilla. (Can you see how much I value perfume?)

Mancro
Super absorbent microfiber towel
This is not a gimmick. Changing my hair bandana really helped enhance my wave pattern. Curly hair is particularly susceptible to breakage and frizz, both of which can be exacerbated by rough terry fabrics. Get yourself a $5 microfiber towel like this one, you won’t regret it. I like to wrap my hair in one of these after I’ve detached my leave-in conditioner.

Rose
Lucia Styling Oil
I guess I would do a hair care review without mentioning Rōz? Think again! I really love every formula, but this styling oil is at the top of my list. It’s so lightweight that I often use it on day three dry hair to refresh my ends, but it’s also A+ for locking in moisture after the shower. Once my hair has been towel drying for about 20 minutes, I open it up and sweep this oil through my hair from roots to ends.

rhyme and reason
Wave Revival Gel Serum
Well, this $6 hairspray is my secret weapon for soft, defined waves. I almost want to turn it off so it doesn’t sell out, but I have to emphasize its ability to define curls without creating any lingering crunch. I’ll squeeze a good clump of hair into my hands, rub my palms together, and then scrunch and twirl sections of hair to define the wave pattern. Just try not to fiddle with your strands while the gel sets—it’s a one-way ticket to frizz.

Crown Affair
Flexible styling hairspray
Sometimes I use Crown Affair’s gel instead of Rhyme & Reason, which has a similar light, creamy consistency. This one is also great for slicked-back styles, as it provides stylish hold while brushing off easily.

You have to keep at it (and I mean every day), but I seriously swear by this hair growth serum. In fact, I noticed that the sparse areas on my temples were covered in baby hair.

When my wet hair is styled, I use crease-free bobby pins to style and hold my bangs in place. Creates perfect bouncy bangs without any heat. You can buy absolutely any package on Amazon, but I especially love these dazzling options from Emi Jay.

On-the-go styling gel
I was a little hesitant about this styling gel at first, but since then it has become my absolute go-to for styling my back. I have a lot of baby hair, but any potential flyaways are completely flattened. Also have to call out the sandalwood; it’s quite strong but smells like my favorite perfume.
