The upper consists of a series of smooth suede panels coated with a special waterproof finish. The tongue and ankle sections are reinforced with extra padding for added comfort and support, while thick “University Gold” cord straps tie everything together like you’d see on trail shoes like the Nike ACG series That way.

But what really sets the Cygnal apart is the midsole underneath. This massive unit looks to be at least an inch and a half thick. It’s filled with sharp geometric lines and is made from a special foam that the Beaverton-based brand calls “all-terrain composite.” This is the same stuff Nike uses for some of track’s greatest athletes, so even if you shouldn’t Run your next 10k in these, it doesn’t mean you cannot.
The Nike Cygnal “Desert Ore” will release in the coming weeks at Nike, the Snkrs app and select retailers globally for $180 USD.
