Welcome to Great Fitting. With fall in the air, we jumped at the chance to try out some of the best new arrivals from some of your favorite brands and document the process. We believe the best way to shop online is to see items in person and read candid reviews, so we hope this helps you make your most successful purchase of the year.
It’s that time of year when I start itching to invest in my fall capsule wardrobe. When everyone wanted to buy jackets in August, I managed to resist, sipping an aperitif in tiny gym shorts and sandals and snickering. Then again, I avoid the temptation to wear a coat in September, telling myself that the concept of cold is nothing more than a figment of the distant future. Then suddenly the October cold temperatures hit and I felt ill-prepared and, frankly, it was damn cold. Thankfully, however, no matter how ill-prepared I am for the cold, whether it’s a new season, a last-minute vacation or a party I forgot to attend, Mango is always there to spruce up my wardrobe.
If you haven’t noticed yet, Mango’s products have improved significantly over the past 6 to 12 months. Ever since I discovered its premium line, The Selection, I swear I’ve never really looked back. Of course, I’m familiar with many brands on the high street, but none conquer expensive style quite like Mango’s Fall/Winter 24 collection. Well, yes, it does! How about classic pieces like denim and tank tops? You bet. Are there any more trend-setting items? Oh, the richness. The difference is that Mango’s pieces, when designed right, don’t actually look as affordable as they really are.
Take this cream fringed coat, for example, a standout piece from the order I made and tried on at home this week. I wore it to work the next day and I can’t tell you how many compliments I received. Actually I can, it’s 6. Whenever I tell them this is from Mango, and not a more luxurious brand like Toteme, the only reaction I get is pure surprise. While £230 is a lot of change, a piece like this, whose color and silhouette is timeless, but with details like a detachable scarf and fringed hem, makes it feel special and, frankly, more expensive.
But this coat isn’t the only piece I love. Fortunately for my wardrobe (and perhaps unfortunately for my bank balance), I decided to keep multiple items. Here are 3 of my favorite looks that are so chic and trendy.

Style Notes: Obviously, the fringed jacket is the main piece here. Part of Mango’s Western collection, where cow-print leather, fringed jackets and denim dominate, it’s unsurprisingly quite heavy. Once you get the hang of how to style a scarf (I personally think the easiest way is to detach it from the coat and drape it over one shoulder), the coat will look really nice. It’s a very bright cream color, so it should really be reserved for more occasional wear than daily wear, unless you’re really good at keeping things clean or have a great dry cleaner on speed dial. It’s also unlined, so there’s room underneath for a cozy knit sweater without making you feel too hot.
Also worth mentioning is the low-waisted dress below. ICYMI: Whether it’s jeans, dresses or cargo pants, waistlines are getting lower and lower, and while I wasn’t a fan of them the first time around in the early 2000s, I’m pretty open to them now. This dress in particular solves this problem very well. The base is cotton and the top half is stretch knit for ultimate comfort. What’s more, it can be easily styled in a variety of ways. While I paired it with boots and added a belt here for a business casual vibe, I think it’s perfect for a more evening look with mules, slicked back hair, and heavy makeup. Very good, mango – I was impressed.

Style Notes: Let’s start with these shoes. As a fashion editor, I try out a lot (a lot) of new clothes, shoes, and accessories on the job, and these mules are probably my favorite piece I’ve tried on this year. Cow print is a big trend this season, seen everywhere on bags, jackets, and belts, but this iteration surpasses any other example I’ve seen to date. While I try to avoid trends that feel fleeting, this style and silhouette—square toe and sleek black heel—make them look so Expensive. They’re also fun, and it’s not easy to make a piece that feels joyful without being a little bit new.
Another standout piece of this outfit is the knitted sweater draped over the shoulders. While cashmere can last up to ten years, I invest in a new one every year or two. I think this is a priceless purchase and there is no better feeling than it. And, even though I prefer neutral colors, I know I’ll be shopping the red trend this fall. I’m done. Whether it’s red shoes, my nails, or here my sweater, this cherry color makes me feel alive. I especially love pairing them with jeans, and these mid-wash blue jeans with eyelets and a straight fit are the perfect pairing.

Style Notes: A smart leather jacket is a must-have for any capsule wardrobe. The same goes for trench coats. However, the leather trench coat feels more special than a “necessity” but an investment piece. There’s no denying that at £400 this product does have the price tag of an investment piece, which feels expensive for a high street brand. But I’m curious to see how it compares to leather goods from designer luxury brands I’ve tried in the past, as well as other more affordable options. I have to say, the pictures on the website do little to do justice to the appeal of this coat. The leather is super soft, the waist is cut just right and sits just right on the calf. What’s more, it seems to go with everything, elevating a fairly casual look to one that’s perfect for evening. It satisfies a tricky but important equation for me, balancing classic and cool. Not many garments can do this, but it does promise a variety of ways to wear it. So, while £400 sounds a bit pricey, it’s a great match for many coats like it that cost 5 times the price!
When it came to styling this coat, I wanted to put my claim to the fact that it could elevate a casual look to evening wear, so I decided to style this coat with the following pieces: generally Consider wearing it during the day.
Since the Y2K trend seems to be disappearing soon, I’m really trying to embrace it in a way that doesn’t make me feel like I’m wearing my 12-year-old self. While I probably won’t be wearing layers of skirts or putting butterfly clips in my hair anytime soon, I have started wearing low-rise pants and often carrying a small shoulder bag, which feels very 2002. Their eyelet stud detailing is just the right hint of the style I loved twenty years ago without making me feel stupid. Even though I’m wearing a white tank top and these pants, paired with pointy toe heels (so 2002 again), and this really nice trench coat, I can safely say that this is what I love to wear on a Friday night The styling goes out. I’d say that gets the job done, doesn’t it?
