During my endless TikTok scrolling, I came across a video from New York-based influencer Brigette Pheloung that caught my attention. “This is a way to curl your hair without using heat,” she said, grimacing as she neatly clamped each strand of hair with at least 50 thick pink snaps. Questions raced through my mind: How long did this take? What will curly hair look like? How much does this weigh? And most importantly: Will this tear out her hair?

It didn’t take me long to find the answer on the app itself. “This took four hours…and that’s just one aspect,” fellow influencer Sabryna Salmon shouted to the audience, as Pheloung whipped it through in 20 minutes. As for the final result? The Salmon’s curl is tight, and the Pheloung’s lack of elasticity is impressive. I still can’t find the answer to my last query. Will reuse completely ruin your hair? I turned to hairstylist and Color Wow’s international creative director Dom Seeley to find out whether this viral trend is worth paying attention to, and which heatless curling methods are not only effective, but safe for your hair.

Professional hairstylists see many different micro-trends—often in and out of beauty consciousness in an instant. Some do work and may become staples in our daily lives, but for the most part… the results aren’t that noticeable. “My initial honest thought was that this heatless curling iron method wasn’t the most cost-effective or sustainable option,” Seeley says. “Not only do you need to buy a lot of clamps, but you can get the same results faster with a heated tool.”

For straight hair types, it’s obvious that simply adding multiple clips to dry hair won’t work without additional manipulation. “For those with super-straight hair, the same problem can occur when trying to use a Dyson AirWrap or Shark styler on freshly blow-dried hair,” Seeley adds. In hairdresser terms, in order to effectively curl your hair, “you have to change the hydrogen bonds within the hair,” which can be accomplished with heat or while the hair is wet. Essentially, the hair underneath each clip needs to dry into its new shape so that the style will last.

However, this method may be more effective for those with thicker, more textured hair. “While reviewing videos of this trend, I saw those [people] “The results were really interesting, and the curls were unlike anything I’ve ever seen created with a hot tool,” Seeley continued, adding, “All things considered, I’m still not convinced this is the most useful heatless tool.” Curling method. As for the metal clips, you need to be aware that they are also placed very close together to achieve the desired curl, which can cause external damage to the cuticles.

The heatless curling method frees your hair from harsh hair tools that can permanently damage your hair if used incorrectly or too often. “Soft, heatless curling tools coated in silk and satin are actually very healthy for your hair because they don’t cause as much friction. To get clear, defined curls, use nourishing products to enrich your hair. Add texture. This is An easy way to create perfect curls without damaging your hair.
