If you are going to invest in one baby item, it should be a car seat. After all, this is a device responsible for keeping your child safe in the car. So when a new car seat came out that claimed to take safety precautions to the next level—the Babyark Convertible Car Seat Premium ($990, originally $1,190)—I was certainly interested.

Babyark claims to feature unique energy-absorbing technology, shock-absorbing materials and side-impact protection. It also features a guided installation system designed to help reduce user error and ensure correct and safe installation.

Granted, the Babyark’s price tag is part of what makes it stand out. Of course, a car seat doesn’t have to be expensive—certainly not as expensive as a Babyark—to be high-quality and safe. But if they want to charge That’s allwhich of course means they go above and beyond when it comes to safety, convenience, and comfort – right?

Babyark offered to send me a car seat to try out for myself, and I jumped at the chance to see if the hypothesis held up to the test. Here, my unfiltered thoughts on the Babyark car seat.

Why I love the Babyark car seat

Car seat installation has come a long way since the 1980s, when new parents often struggled with how to strap a car seat in, so much so that it became an entire trope. But even so, Babyark is incredibly easy to install. I received a premium version of the seat, which connects to an app that guides you step-by-step through the installation process. The seat itself also has an indicator light to confirm that the seat is installed correctly, giving you extra peace of mind.

Once installed, I was blown away by how comfortable the Babyark car seat was. The material is very soft, and the egg-shaped seat looks very comfortable without looking cramped. My son isn’t a big fan of car seats, but in the Babyark he settled in quickly and was dozing off within minutes of hitting the road. (success.)

But where the Babyark really stands out is its safety features. It uses a shock-absorbing system called SafeCoil, which is designed to reduce the force and forward momentum on the seat when the car suddenly stops. It also has a side impact protection system designed to deflect force away from a child’s head in the event of a crash. The headrests contain D30, a polymer that helps absorb impact.

The app is also useful for verifying that the seat is installed correctly and that your child is securely buckled in at all times. It even has a feature that will alert you if you leave the vehicle without your baby. In order to be sold in the United States, car seats must meet certain U.S. federal safety standards, so the additional features provided by Babyark are not critical to the safety of the car seat, but they do provide some additional peace of mind , this is very important.

Another plus: the fabric zips up and is machine washable. Considering my kids are prone to motion sickness, this is a huge plus.

What to consider before trying the Babyark car seat

The Babyark is big and heavy: The seat weighs about 27 pounds, and the base weighs an additional 18 to 20 pounds. This isn’t a problem if you plan on installing it and leaving it in the car, but it’s definitely not a car seat I’d consider using for air travel.

I also found the headrest to be a bit wide, especially when my kids were younger. I’m not worried about this from a safety standpoint, but when he dozes off while we’re driving and his head turns from side to side as the car moves, I worry about him waking up.

Babyark is also relatively new to the market, which means it’s hard to find people who share their experiences, either in person or online. It’s not a big deal, but as someone who enjoys reading other people’s comments, I miss being able to comb through suggestions, questions, and tips on forums like Reddit or TikTok.

Who is the Babyark car seat best for?

While most car seats expire approximately six years after the date of manufacture, the Babyark never expires and can be converted for use from newborn (starting at 4 pounds) to 6 years old (up to 65 pounds). Therefore, it is an ideal choice for those who want a long-lasting car seat.

It’s also perfect for security professionals who want extra protection with these additional features.

Is the Babyark car seat worth the money?

Likewise, any car seat currently on the market has been tested to ensure that it meets certain safety requirements, so it is possible to find a car seat that is safe, comfortable and more economical. But if you have the space to splurge, the Babyark is a great choice.

More details about the Babyark car seat

    • Babyark comes in two models: Classic ($790) and Premium ($990, originally priced at $1,190), and this is the one I tried. The only differences are that the Classic has no carbon fiber in its frame and no guide lights (to aid installation) or app connections.
    • The classic and premium models are available in charcoal gray/glacier ice and charcoal gray/midnight blue; the premium version is also available in eggshell white/moonlight.
    • You can purchase the matching Babyark cup holder ($49) or car seat cover ($129) separately.
