Well, we’re all a little tired of the narratives pitting generations against each other. Instagram or TikTok, Whatsapp or Snapchat, matcha or iced latte — ultimately, the year we were born doesn’t matter when we decide how to dress, but as a millennial fashion editor, I can’t help but notice that my Gen Z colleagues It seems to be one step ahead of the trends before they become mainstream. Bandanas on hats and the latest Aries collaboration? Half our team had already added the hashtags to their baskets before the rest of us saw them, and with a slew of new trends landing just in time for fall, I quickly asked my fellow editors for their thoughts on which ones are worth the splurge. views and those best left to socializing.
Where Gen Z leads, trend cycles tend to follow, and if you don’t believe me, we have Gen Z to thank for the shorts, football shirts, low-rise jeans, tube tops and Uggs, you know, all those millennials The first time we wore the clothes we didn’t think we would feel cool again so quickly. There’s no denying that the under-27 crowd is increasing their purchasing power and making brands sit up and take notice, so who better to lead the charge than an open-minded, experimental generation ready to create a movement out of anything ? Well, some Millennials aren’t convinced, and after a quick poll at the office, it’s clear they’re the two on some trends that the two disagree on (but seasoned shoppers might just like both). Want to know which work made the cut? Keep scrolling to see the eight trends that millennial and Gen Z editors are most excited about right now, and pick your champion.
1. Generation Z: Faux Fur
style notes: It’s not even winter yet, and Gen Z is already stocking up on faux fur to show off. Big, bold, hard-to-ignore statement fuzz is increasingly popular in the form of collars, cuffs, cardigans, and, of course, outerwear—and the only secret to catching this trend is to throw minimalism out the window.

There’s something to be said for the tongue-in-cheek element of Friesland, especially when it comes to accessories, and all the Gen Z editors in the office agreed that Acne’s calf-hair loafers are a must.

4. Millennials: Leopard print
style notes: Over the past few months, we’ve spotted Kate Moss, Hailey Bieber, Sienna Miller and Zoe Kravitz all wearing leopard print Clothing and accessories, it’s a sure sign that the big cat energy isn’t dead. For those of us who spent the late 1990s as fashion’s most influential people, leopard print will always be synonymous with Hedi Slimane, indie musicians and Glastonbury Festival’s Alexa Chung, until we prepare Before we give up on our headline fantasies, leopard print will continue to be a seasonal staple alongside cozy knitwear and knee-high boots.

5. Generation Z: Skinny scarves
Style Notes: Speaking of indie retro, the thin scarves permanently worn around the necks of supermodels and musicians in the 2000s are back, albeit with a more comfortable twist. While we’re not quite ready to welcome the return of pencil-thin metallic scarves just yet, slim knit scarves are gaining traction among Gen Z’s most stylish styles, and are perfect for in-between weather when chunky cable knits aren’t necessary. Taking notes from Holly Mercedes [pictured above] Pair tonal pieces with pops of color, like the perfect red from Hollie’s new wool brand, Cloimh.

Before we could even say “disc belt”, we were collectively snapping up flowing shirts, farmhouse A skirt and wedge sandals feel like it’s 2005. This time around, there won’t be a headband on your forehead or excessive fringe, but you can wear it comfortably in layers of sheer chiffon and ruffles paired with high-waisted denim for a statement-making look without sacrificing the look.
