Sonya Passi is the founder and CEO of FreeFrom, an organization for survivors of gender-based violence, and CHANI, an astrology app. Both companies provide a positive environment for their employees, but they offer much more than that when it comes to employee well-being. CHNI’s base salary is $80,000; fully covered health, dental and vision insurance, unlimited menstrual leave, paid and protected time off for employees experiencing gender-based violence, unlimited PTO with vacation pay, wealth building allowance and a four-day work week. Passi told Refinery29 that period-specific policies such as menstrual leave and free products cannot stand on their own but must “become part of the wider culture around health and employee well-being, otherwise it won’t make sense and people won’t trust” it.
