    5-minute quick abs and obliques workout

    Time is a precious commodity, and sometimes finding time for physical activity, such as a 30-minute HIIT workout or a group fitness class, can be challenging. However, trainer Lanier Pollard has a simple solution: a simple five-minute ab workout that targets your obliques. While five minutes may not seem like a lot, Pollard explains that you can plan on taking this quick class after completing a longer PS Fit workout. Or you can try it as a simple way to start an energizing day.

    Classes are structured somewhat like exercise snacks rather than longer workout sessions, making them perfect for time-limited workouts without sacrificing gains. With help from Paulyn Baens and Jai Jordan, the class is designed to engage the oblique muscles on the sides of the body, which are essential for developing a stronger, more stable core.

    The class begins with a series of windshield wiper exercises and includes modifications, as well as ways to increase intensity by extending one leg at a time or simultaneously. Next: Diagonal Crunches. The focus here is to maintain control of the movement, especially when returning to the ground, rather than putting strain on the neck or head. As an added challenge, Pollard led the class through a series of crab-like bridge variations that target similar oblique muscles throughout the body as those used in side planks.

    Since the video is short and sweet, it doesn’t include a guided cool-down, but we provide you with a 6-minute cool-down from Sweat and Tell. Ultimately, adding a fun 5-minute oblique workout to your workout routine can be an easy way to mix up your workouts and stay active.
