When your WinkBed arrives, give it a few hours to air out and decompress. Don’t worry, we found that the initial smell goes away within a day, but it can be difficult at first. To make setting it up easier on yourself, you should also find a buddy or two to help you because the bed is heavy.
Bear designs its mattresses with the active community in mind, ensuring they get the proper rest and recovery to perform at their best. The Elite Hybrid is the brand’s ultra-luxury option, packed with some advanced features and superior cooling technology.
What our testers think
The Bear Elite Hybrid comes in three firmness options: soft, medium and firm, allowing you to customize its comfort to your personal preference. Our reviewer went down the middle and tested the medium-firm model.
There are many great things about this mattress, but for our testers, the one that stood out the most was the cooling effect. The Bear Elite Hybrid combines phase change materials with Bear’s trademark sleep recovery technology powered by Celliant foam. Phase change materials and Celiat foam work together to reduce the overall surface temperature of the mattress, helping you sleep cooler and therefore sleep better. The Bear’s reputation in the fitness and sports world is largely due to this foam, but the innerspring does a lot to keep air flowing throughout the night.
The Bear Elite Hybrid is a bed-in-a-box mattress that arrives compressed and rolled in a box. After delivery, just unbox and install. Since the queen size mattress weighs 110 pounds, you may need help. Like many new mattresses, it needs a few hours to vent the air. Once the bed is completely decompressed, any odor will disappear. To minimize odor, our testers recommend placing the mattress in a well-ventilated room for 24 to 48 hours before sleeping on it.
For a supportive, surprisingly cooling sleep experience, we recommend Nolah Signature Foam, especially for those with shoulder pain or hip pain.
What our testers think
From the moment they first laid down on it, our testers knew this mattress was suitable for those suffering from joint pain. They found that the foam filled in the empty space in the waist area well, hugging them comfortably without sagging too much. On their side, they felt a little pressure on their shoulders, but were still comfortable enough to fall asleep straight away.
That said, our testers think this mattress is a good choice for back and side sleepers, and is especially suitable for couples thanks to its excellent edge support and motion isolation. While foam is the main component of the mattress, our testers warned not to expect the quicksand-like feel that most memory foam enthusiasts are accustomed to—one that provides less of an enveloping feel that’s good for back support.
In terms of cooling, our testers thought the Nolah slept cooler than most memory foam beds, thanks to its moisture-wicking organic cotton cover and surprisingly breathable Nolah AirFoam.
The Leesa Legend is a hybrid mattress that comes with a range of notable features that justify its bold name. It’s made from recycled materials and features an organic cotton and merino wool cover for the environmentally conscious sleeper.
What our testers think
As the softest mattress in the Leesa range, our testers liked how it balanced the quicksand feel of memory foam with the supportive nature of traditional coils and zoned support (especially in the shoulder area, which showed huge benefits). Side sleepers or people with shoulder pain will love the Leesa Legend, as will those who like bouncing in bed. The combination of softness and stretch is surprising, but we’ll take it.
While memory foam may be considered one of the sweatiest materials on the mattress market, this bed neutralizes heat thanks to microcoil ventilation and superior airflow on the top layer. The coil’s bounce eliminates the possibility of heat buildup, so you can move freely while staying cool. After testing, we easily recommend the Leesa Legend as a cooling mattress for hot sleepers. Merino wool covers have the advantage of being naturally moisture-wicking and odor-resistant.
The only downside to the Legend is for stomach sleepers – if you’re a stomach sleeper, we wouldn’t recommend this. It’s also more expensive, so those on a budget should shop with caution.
The coolest thing about the Birch Luxe Natural is that it’s eco-friendly, while the EuroTop cover provides comfort for back or stomach sleepers.
What our testers think
The Luxe Natural is a fairly firm latex hybrid mattress that our testers found best for hot sleepers. Its individually covered coils, air-filled latex and fleece layers provide excellent breathability and aid in temperature regulation. Unlike memory foam, latex mattresses do not trap heat, making this mattress ideal for people who are prone to overheating at night. Considering no harmful chemicals are used in the mattress, eco-friendly materials like organic wool and latex enhance the mattress’s cooling properties while providing peace of mind.
Our testing found that the Birch provides ideal support for back and stomach sleepers. The latex foam creates a solid surface, and its durability makes it ideal for people weighing over 230 pounds. Latex is also a stretchy material, which means you should be able to use this mattress for a long time. Additional pillow tops are also available if back sleepers need more cushioning, however, side sleepers may find the mattress less comfortable due to its higher firmness around the shoulders and hips.
Puffy Lux Hybridis are a great option for couples who don’t want to get banged every time their partner tosses and turns. The hybrid construction provides excellent cooling, and the mattress can be paired with a dual-zone base for added comfort.
What our testers think
The first feedback from our testers on the Puffy Lux was encouraging, telling us they felt like they were on the clouds, immediately noticing a soft, plush feel as well as some pleasant cooling properties. They were also surprised by the slow touch response, which is not common in other hybrid beds that use coils for support. But that’s not a bad thing – that’s what makes the cloud feel.
The mattress is a good choice for both side sleepers and back sleepers, although the latter may find it more forgiving. In testing, we found that movement from side to side dissipated quickly, which is why we highly recommend this product for couples – drastic changes from your partner won’t bother you.
