For a home ice bath that’s essentially a container of cold water, it can actually be quite expensive: other luxury products with sleek wood designs, temperature controls, and filtration systems can cost thousands of dollars. But none have broken the $10,000-plus seal like this collaboration. So what does all that cash get you?
We admit it: it looks morbid. The size of the high-wall tub, warm brown wood finish, matte black details and under-lit LED lights will fit into any One Percent home’s modern spa scheme – whether indoors or out, as the cold water bath fits both spaces.
It has an “ergonomic” design with an upright sitting position, headrest and hand troughs so you can be as comfortable as possible while cold diving. Of course, you can customize the temperature (from 39 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit) and filtration settings on the built-in panel, and there’s a mechanism to connect the tub to your home’s water source. Just like a freestanding hot tub, you don’t need to drain and refill – it’s constantly sanitized through filters and UV light.
The chiller will activate as needed to maintain the set temperature. The tub itself is also insulated and features an all-weather insulated therapeutic cover to help maintain water temperature.
There’s also a timer, a “breathing light” designed to help guide your workouts, and a slot to hold a smartphone or tablet. Ideally, the device will play the ice bath’s companion app, which features guided meditations and ice bath instruction videos from Remedy Place founder Jonathan Leary, a doctor of chiropractic and alternative medicine.
Cold baths have become a fixture in rehabilitation clubs and wellness spaces. some older studies1 Supporting them can provide physical and mental benefits, from stimulating blood flow to aid recovery, to reducing stress (and cortisol levels) by activating the parasympathetic nervous system. However, Other research2 No evidence was found to support these claims, and some health experts say the evidence overall is very weak.
There’s also the fact that you don’t necessarily need a specific cold water tub to immerse yourself in cold water. As long as you can tolerate it, you may get the same effect by standing in a cold shower.
But Kohler Cold Diving excels at delivering high-tech spa treatments with little evidence of its benefits for families. Today, wellness therapy enthusiasts can purchase infrared saunas, PEMF mats, lymphatic drainage massagers, and larger, more expensive gadgets to spruce up these home recovery spaces. If you have the money, not to mention the space, the Kohler x Remedy Place collaboration is sure to be for you.
