Prince William and Kate Middleton have a well-rounded range of hobbies, with the Welshman enjoying everything from hockey, polo and piano to art and photography. But on Thursday, October 3, the Prince of Wales revealed that their eldest child, Prince George, has learned an impressive skill.
“Catherine and I both loved swimming. George loved scuba diving,” William told a group of swimmers at an event to celebrate the newly reopened community pool in Tyne and Wear, England (via Hello!).
Although the couple were initially concerned that 11-year-old Prince George would be frightened, he seemed to take to the dive right away.
“He was ten years old and we took him underwater thinking he would freak out, but he absolutely loved it. It just introduced him to the world of water,” the prince added.
William and Kate are both experienced divers, and the couple took to Instagram to share clips from their scuba diving trip during their 2022 Caribbean trip. There are even scuba diving clubs, according to their website.
Scuba diving wasn’t the only active activity the young prince was interested in, with George attending many Aston Villa football matches with his father. Just as Prince William attended a match with best friend Thomas van Straubenzee on October 2, the teenager is also passionate about Aston Villa, Also enjoys watching rugby games.
At home in Windsor, he played football and cricket at school. But it’s not just about sports. George, known as “PG” or “Tips” among his friends, also showed an artistic side, with ballet lessons forming part of his curriculum at his former Thomas’s Battersea School in London.
The young prince also inherited a love of drawing and painting like his mother and grandfather King Charles, and celebrated Christmas 2022 by painting a rather impressive reindeer. according to Hello! Kate told some art students in 2019 that the little prince is very resourceful when it comes to finding art materials.
“George found a lump of charcoal in the fireplace and said, ‘Mom, I’m going to draw a picture,'” she said.
As well as sharing George’s scuba diving hobby, Prince William also revealed why he chose not to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympics during Thursday’s swimming event.
When asked if he would be able to attend the Olympics this summer, he responded: “No, I would very much like to come, but I have to say, after reading someone’s interview about COVID-19, I decided – because of my wife Obviously undergoing chemotherapy – I didn’t want to risk bringing COVID home.
