Oura uses sensors inside the ring to track more than 30 health and wellness metrics, including important ones like heart rate and heart rate variability, and is probably best known for its sleep tracking (check out our review of how the Oura uses it) Gen3 Sleep recommendations give us more energy to exercise.
Oura Ring 4 has more than twice as many sensors as Gen3 (from 8 to 18 now), and the latest version includes a so-called “smart sensing” feature that has shown some impressive improvements over Gen3 in external tests. Impressive accuracy improvements include a 7% reduction in gaps in daytime heart rate charts and a 31% reduction in gaps in nighttime heart rate charts. Gaps in the chart refer to missing heart rate data over a period of time, fewer gaps means more continuous monitoring, resulting in better, more consistent data.
“Through smart sensing, Oura Ring 4 can take into account the ring rotation that naturally occurs during daily activities, as well as differences in finger anatomy, shape, body mass index and skin tone,” Holly Shelton, Oura’s chief product officer, said in a press release. “.
Oura Ring 4 — $399.00
Oura Ring 4 is an all-titanium smart ring that can track more than 30 health indicators and is the thinnest and most accurate Oura ring to date.
The Oura Ring 4 is also available in sizes 4 to 15, making it one of the most inclusive smart rings in terms of size, and both the exterior and interior of the ring are now made from titanium for increased durability. It’s also thinner than before (about 0.02mm thinner, which isn’t much), and the battery life has been extended, so you can wear it for up to eight days.
Oura announced a new app layout alongside the release of Oura Ring 4, designed to streamline the data you get from the ring (which is a lot — in addition to the usual sleep, activity, etc., the ring also focuses on stress and resilience, women’s health, and heart health, Oura recently announced plans to enter the metabolic health space). The app is simpler, with three sections accessible via tabs at the bottom of the home screen: Today, Vitals, and My Health.
“With all the new features and functionality we’ve introduced over the past 12 months, navigating the Oura app has become even more difficult,” Shelton said. [app] Connect the dots to help Oura members understand their habits
Today’s behaviors, such as aerobic exercise and sleep hygiene, will impact their health as they age and help them understand how to make changes that will pay off later in life.
The updated app is available to anyone who owns a ring, regardless of generation, and starts rolling out today.
In addition to the one-time ring fee that comes with a one-month membership, there is a membership fee of $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
