LVMH sells Off-White
LVMH has sold Off-White, founded by Virgil Abloh in 2012, to the Blue Star Alliance. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed. Blue Star Alliance CEO Joey Gabbay said in a press release that the acquisition allows Blue Star Alliance to “respect and carry forward the immortal legacy of Virgil Abloh.” “Abloh’s ability to blend street culture with high fashion creates a strong foundation that aligns with our vision to foster innovation while embracing diversity,” Gabbay continued. “The acquisition of Off-White, as well as providing strategic investment and building our The opportunity for a global network of resources will allow the cultural and creative momentum that Virgil has ignited to continue, and the Blue Star Alliance is committed to building on this momentum.” {PR Newswire}
Alfred Chang named CEO of Everlane
Everlane names Alfred Chang as CEO, succeeding Andrea O’Donnell. Starting Monday, Zhang will work alongside Michael Preysman, who remains executive chairman and climate chief. Salomon opens first New York pop-up store in SoHo
Salomon will open its first U.S. retail store in SoHo, which will be open to the public from October 2 to the end of January 2025. Bangladesh garment workers protest leaves one dead
A garment worker was shot dead and at least 20 others were injured in clashes between police and protesters during a garment worker protest in Bangladesh after protesters blocked a major highway. California governor signs textile recycling bill into law
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a textile recycling bill to address the state’s growing textile waste problem. Under the newly signed law, brands with global sales of more than $1 million will be required to establish and fund a program to reuse, repair and recycle clothing and fabrics sold in California. In 2021, approximately 1.2 million tons of textiles were discarded in California, and although most of them were reused or recycled, only 15% returned to the market. {fashion business/paywall}
